Mens Own started the game with great spirit, Mark James kicking two penalties to take a 6-0 lead. The home side hit back with a penalty and a converted try, and just before the break another penalty by Mark James gave the home side a half time lead of 10-9.

Playing up the slope in muddy conditions proved difficult for the visitors, but their forwards gave the opposition all sorts of trouble, but not enough to stop the score moving to 17-9, before Craig Wilson went over from short range to make it 17-14. From then on Old Newtonians mastered the condition better and with just five minutes remaining had increased their lead to 43-14, before super sub Dan Heath scored a try for Mens Own to make the score a bit more respectable.

Next week Mens Own are on the road again in a league match at Aylestone St James.
