The loser of this game could wave goodbye to any hopes of promotion this season, and it was the home side who will continue in this league next season. Mens Own with the wind on their backs started stronger when James Reynolds powered over for a try, Mark James adding the conversion and then a penalty to give the home side a 10-0 lead. Lions hit back with two penalties and then some loose tackling by the home side allowed the visitors to score a converted try and take the lead 10-13. Another penalty apiece before the break gave a half time score of 13-16. The wind would appear to be the main problem for Mens Own but in the end it was the awarding of two yellow cards to the home side that proved to be their undoing. Lions scored another penalty then a fine run down the wing by Barry Hamilton brought the score to 18-19. With one player in the sin bin, Mens Own could not stop a strong Lions side and they ran in two converted tries to give a final score of 18-33, and their hopes of promotion were kept alive.
